What branch of the military will space warships be under?

I'm pretty sure everyone has seen a sci-fi movie or read a book where there vessels in space designed for war in space and they are most commonly under the United States Navy simply because the space "ships" have a lot in common with Naval Ships on the ocean. But isn't the Airforce the branch in control of space warfare? So in the future, if we did create space warfare vessels, what branch in the military should they be under?|||An interesting question. One that we have talked about on a slow shift in the middle of the night. I work in a Joint organization, so we have all the services on a shift, with a variety of opinions.

Our consensus is that it will be a Navy-style force, maybe not part of the Navy, but one organized as a naval force.

The Navy comes with a doctrine that, with modifications for whatever craft will be used, already supports what we think of as space-based operations.

The Navy also has a tradition and history that supports the sort of long-distance, single-command, no-higher support that was common in the pre-instant communications Navy, and will likely be the norm in a space-based force.

As long as we have an "Air" Force, or even "Aerospace" Force, it will be wedded to planetary operations|||The Air Force. Click on "It's not Science Fiction" at the bottom of the web page at the following link.....

.....and then, click on "Space Command" which is the second image to appear on the screen. From there click on the small concentric circle at the bottom of the page. It will move to the center of the page. Each of the blue links of the circle is an embedded link. Watch the "Space Command Commercial."

Good Luck!|||Considering that what you're suggesting may not come out for hundreds of years at a minimum; nobody can even give an educated guess. For all we know, they may develop an all-new branch, or they may combine the current branches. We can worry about that when it happens, which will probably be long after your great, great, great grandchildren have already grown old and died.|||The most likely possibility is the militarization of the space program and the creation of a new "branch" that would be organized like the Navy, but made up of mostly civilian personnel and former Air Force members.|||US Space Command Aurora Space Fleet... The secret space program...|||I think at that point all of the branches would have merged into one super space branch and all training will be the same and what not...|||It would have to be a new branch.

The Galactical Fury.|||New Branch: Maybe USSF, United States Space Force....somethin like that|||NASA|||One yet to exist.|||What's the point of this question?|||didn't you hear? they cut NASA spending. so bye bye to that
